About Catfishin’ Muslimah
Gear for the Water. Heart for the Neighborhood!
Catfishin’ Muslimah is a faith-forward fishing and lifestyle brand founded and run from Washington, D.C. by married partners Sean Hallowell (Abdul Wakil) and Jamie Gross (DC Adira Aabida). What started as a shared refuge and passion for fishing has grown into a mission-driven company that blends family, faith, craft, and community impact.
Our Founders

DC Adira Aabida
A lifelong Washingtonian and alumna of Trinity Washington University and Howard University, DC Adira brought her education in entrepreneurship, business administration, and social work to the water. She imagined a brand that honors faith, family, and creative enterprise—and built Catfishin’ Muslimah to make that vision real. Her leadership blends strategic design, community-first thinking, and relentless care for the people the brand serves.
Abdul Wakil
Sean Hallowell, known religiously as Abdul Wakil, is a devoted husband, father, entrepreneur, and certified HVAC and maintenance technician. After serving time in the Maryland prison system, Abdul reclaimed his life, earned professional certifications, and helped cofound Catfishin’ Muslimah. As Chief Engagement Officer he leads community outreach, mentorship, and programs that create opportunities for DC youth and returning citizens.

Our Purpose
Catfishin’ Muslimah exists to do more than sell gear. We create space for healing, belonging, and growth—on the water and in the neighborhood. We design quality fishing products, create original content that uplifts God’s Faithful and the angling culture, and build programs that expand economic opportunity for our community.
Community Commitment
We invest in people through practical, accessible programs:
- Affiliate Program that lets community members earn commissions selling our products.
- Low-Income Affiliate Starter Loan offering interest-free loans to cover starter pack costs, repaid through early commissions, so affiliates can launch businesses without upfront barriers.
- Mentorship and Outreach led by Abdul Wakil and the team to steer DC youth and young adults toward positive futures.
Our goal is to help community members build sustainable income, reclaim dignity, and leave the world better than we found it.
What We Stand For
Faith — Our values guide decisions, partnerships, and how we serve others.
Family — We celebrate family fishing and multigenerational connection.
Quality — We design products built to perform and last.
Service — We prioritize mentorship, inclusion, and economic access.
Creativity — We express culture through bold visuals, storytelling, and product design.
More Than a Brand
Catfishin’ Muslimah is a lived combination of faith, love, humility, creativity, and action. We are a fishing gear company, a creative studio, a family, and a community partner all in one—rooted in Washington, D.C., and committed to lifting others as we grow.
A Note From Our Founders
We didn’t just start a company—we cast a prayer into the water.
Catfishin’ Muslimah was born from faith, love, and a deep desire to serve. As a married Muslim couple, we found peace in fishing. Now, we’re building a brand that reflects everything we believe in: entrepreneurship with integrity, creativity with humility, and community uplift with real impact.
We’re not here just to sell gear. We’re here to open doors. To help families earn. To guide youth toward better choices. To create space for healing, storytelling, and growth—on the water and in the neighborhood.
We pray that every cast, every caption, every product, and every partnership is guided by God’s will. That He brings into our lives those we’re meant to help—and those meant to help us. That He grants us ease in every trial, and peace in every storm.
This is our offering. Our legacy. Our love letter to our faith, to DC, to our community, and to the people we serve.
Ameen.
